I woke up with a sore throat, running nose, coughing and earache, in a 3rd world country. My normal American behaviors kick in, and I want to locate the nearest CVS or Walgreens…but there are none. 😩. And if it were one, there is not enough money to spend on such things. You learn how to prioritize in this environment. Living The Vapor simply is the key.
I panic but my beloved host and Kenyan daughter simply walks to the garden behind our compound and pull up what looks like wild grass. But she calls it Lemon Grass. “What do you plan to do with that grass?” I exclaimed.
This Lemon Grass plant thingie was about to become the natural medicine I needed, not just for the bad cold/flu like symptoms but I learned quickly the many wonderful properties it has to help our bodies function better.
As I looked intently at the pot on the stove with the boiling leaves, the grace of God enters my messed up mindset and escorts my thoughts to a place of surrender and trust.
I heard Holy Spirit whisper to me Hebrews 13:5….……be content with such things as you have, For He Himself has said I will NEVER leave you nor forsake you.
This word settled my mind and heart. It’s in doing the hard things that releases the presence of God and settles our anxieties down. When we are out of our comfort zone, Abba Father is right beside us with His unspeakable peace.
I was able to watch the process of the preparation of the lemon grass for intake into my body.
It boiled for few minutes until the water changed colors and the liquid was strained into my tea cup. His grace kicked in and I was able to sip it and the taste was not bad at all. It definitely felt good to my throat. And eventually my upset stomach calmed down as well.
God has given us everything that we need but most of us (including me) are too lazy to study His word when it comes to healthy foods to eat, herbal remedies for our various health issues, etc. It’s easier to run to the store and spend God’s money on man-made medicine that does not heal, but cost us more money over the long term.
Psalm 116:6 is ringing in my heart….The LORD preserve the simple, I was brought low and He saved me.
In Christ Jesus there is an abundance of simplicity. The Apostle Paul says in Philippians 4:12…”I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need”.
This is my heart’s cry in my Jubilee season. I have a long way to go but I am finally willing.
As my friend Myles Munroe would say “I wanna die empty”. As God pours in, I wanna immediately pour out upon others. God’s love is amazing!
I want to encourage lovers of Jesus to be intentional about doing the hard things; those things that make us uncomfortable but results in increased faith and love.
